Vienna / Rengsdorf / Newmarket, April 2, 2025 – Effective March 31,Lohmann & Rauscher Group (L&R) acquired Unisurge International Ltd., the UK’s market-leading and renowned manufacturer and supplier of medical Custom Procedure Packs (CPTs) and further OR products with sites in Newmarket (headquarters) and Castleford. With this strategic acquisition, L&R Group secures market access to the hospital sector and surgical products in the UK. Unisurge will remain an independent company within the L&R Group, a leading, internationally active private company for medical devices and services with roots in Germany and Austria. Current Unisurge CEO Amir Farboud will continue to lead the company and all jobs at Unisurge will be retained. The acquisition is part of L&R’s growth strategy, which intensifies the focus on strategic mergers & acquisitions.

Unisurge was founded in 1988 and reimagined in 2004, then pioneering the surgical Custom Procedure Pack (CPTs) market in the UK. It manufactures and supplies CPTs, surgical drapes, surgical instruments and further products. The company has established a strong reputation in the medical industry, providing high-quality products that meet the stringent demands of healthcare professionals in the hospital sector of UK, especially at the NHS. Unisurge employs in total more than 280 staff in Newmarket (headquarters, with about 249 employees) and Castleford (32 employees), who work in administration, production, logistics (including the company’s own fleet) and direct sales. The company has been able to record growing market share in recent years resulting in a turnover of 48.5 million pounds in 2024.

The L&R Group is a leading, internationally active private company, with roots and headquarters in Germany and Austria, specializing in the development, manufacturing and global sale of medical devices and hygiene products and services. The company is focused on solutions for wound care, including negative pressure wound therapy, compression products and systems, and OR products. With today more than 5,600 employees worldwide, more than 50 subsidiaries, and shareholdings in 28 countries, along with more than 140 selected distribution partners, L&R is present in all major markets around the globe. In 2024, L&R achieved a sales volume of approximately 813 million euros.

The post-acquisition phase will be characterized by continuity: Unisurge will still operate under its current name as a subsidiary of L&R with an independent brand.

Current Unisurge CEO Amir Farboud will continue to lead the business. All jobs at Unisurge will be retained. This decision underscores L&R’s dedication to maintaining the strengths and culture of the Unisurge team while fostering collaboration and growth.

The British sales subsidiary of the L&R Group, L&R Medical UK Ltd. will not be involved in the OR business. L&R Medical UK Ltd. is located in Burton upon Trent (Staffordshire) and will continue to focus on solutions for wound care and compression therapy as they do today.

With this acquisition, effective March 31, 2025, the L&R Group secures market access to the hospital sector and surgical products in the UK. It will enhance the Group’s product portfolio and strengthen its position in the UK market and in the European OR product market. This strategic move aligns with its corporate strategy, which emphasizes growth through strategic mergers and acquisitions as one of the key drivers for future expansion.
