Commitment to achieving Net Zero
Unisurge International Ltd is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by the end of 2040. This is a Ten-Year improvement on the previous year’s plan targeting 2050, based on our commitment to the environment protecting future generations of customers.
Baseline Emissions Footprint
Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.

To date there has only been Scope 1 and Scope 2 reporting and following internal restructuring at the end of 2023 and beginning of 2024 Unisurge are now in the process of gathering data to also provide Scope 3 measurements during 2024 for reporting at year end in line with Scope 1 and 2. | |

Emissions reduction targets
Unisurge targets have been generated following the internal restructuring process began at the end of 2023. The Head of Sustainability was put in place February 2024 and will be generating and controlling the emissions reduction plan. The final plan will be released in line with the Unisurge financial year ending 30th June.
In order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following revised carbon reduction targets as we now have partial Scope 3 recorded.
We project that carbon emissions will decrease over the next five years from 2926 tCO2e to 1,905 tCO2e by end of 2030. This is a reduction of 35% and will keep us ahead of our target.
Progress against these targets can be seen in the graph below:
Unisurge are ahead of target and on course to achieve Net Zero 2040.
Unisurge International Ltd are also recording an Intensity Ratio measurement in our SECR Annual Report, this has improved compared to last year. It decreased from 38.27 tonnes of CO2 per £M turnover last year to 37 tonnes of CO2 per £M turnover this year. This indicates that Unisurge International Ltd is generating more revenue per unit of greenhouse gas emissions, meaning it operates in a more environmentally efficient manner. The lower the ratio, the less carbon the company emits relative to its economic output.
Carbon Reduction Projects
Completed Carbon Reduction Initiatives
The following environmental management measures and projects have been completed or implemented since the 2022 baseline. The carbon emission reduction achieved by these schemes equate to 116 tCO2e, a 6.1%ge reduction against the 2022 baseline for Scope 1 and 2 combined. The initiatives list below will be updated annually.
Completed Carbon Reduction projects and initiatives include installation of the largest Solar roof in West Suffolk at our headquarters. In 2024 Unisurge installed an additional 150kW solar panel system. Unisurge generated 671,982 kWh through this system. This clean renewable energy contributed to reducing reliance on grid-supplied electricity and lowered our Carbon Footprint. 472,190 kWh was used directly onsite and contributed 24% of our annual electricity consumption. Our Scope 2 reduced by 98 tCO2e. This allowed 199,792 kWh to be exported back to the grid supporting the wider decarbonisation of the energy sector
A full fleet of electric company cars has grown over the past 12 months.
Electric charge points on site to encourage staff to buy electric vehicles and use Unisurge electricity at a reduced rate.
A by-product of our ETO sterilisation process is heat. This is used to heat the warehouse negating the need for any other heating systems.
Local supplier sourcing to reduce partial scope 3 emissions (Upstream Transport & Distribution). Specific improvements will be recorded during 2025 for reporting January 2026.
In the future we hope to implement further measures such as:
Unisurge are working towards ISO14067:2018.
Unisurge International will be assessing the use of reforestation Carbon Balancing, this will only take place after all other opportunities have been exhausted and is expected to be reviewed by end of 2029. We are gathering the information to provide full year Scope 3 figures and will adjust the plan accordingly in future years.
Declaration and Sign Off
This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 06/21 and associated guidance and reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans.
Emissions have been reported and recorded in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the GHG Reporting Protocol corporate standard and uses the appropriate Government emission conversion factors for greenhouse gas company reporting . Government emission conversion factors for greenhouse gas company reporting[2].
The 2024 UK Government GHG Conversion Factors for Company Reporting Emission Factors were used to calculate emissions. These factors were applied to energy consumption figures to calculate Scope 1 (direct emissions from gas and fuel usage) and Scope 2 (indirect emissions from purchased electricity). For Scope 3 emissions, appropriate conversion factors for freighting goods were applied.
Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions have been reported in accordance with SECR requirements, and the required subset of Scope 3 emissions have been reported in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard .
